Often times they really don't know much about their business at all.
You may say that is understandable, especially for a new person.....
but I say get educated first, and then start prospecting.
Educated on what?
1. Products. Learn your product line.
Become an expert on all of the products that you sell. If you're dealing with a large product line learn your primary sellers inside out. An MLM distributor with knowledge on their products is someone who's going to make sales. What is the best way to get knowledge on your products?
Purchase them for yourself! This way when you talk with somebody you're talking from a position of experience and not something you've read in the sales brochure.
2. Compensation plan. Learn how you make money in your business and then simplify it so you can explain it to a new prospect.
I'm amazed at how many people cannot explain their compensation plan. Granted, you may not need to know all the ins and outs of levels you won't be reaching for several months or years. However, you should be able to explain the big picture, and then break it down into something that a new prospect can understand and get excited about.
Knowledge gives both you and your prospect confidence. It is the best way to sponsor more prospects.
3. Avoid your upline. Were you aware that people sponsor shop? That simply means when somebody begins to research a business opportunity they also research who would be the best person to get into business with.
I can pretty quickly explain why a new prospect should not get in with a big time established distributor.
Point out you provide personal service that some of the larger successful distributors cannot, or will not provide at this point. Also do not give them any reason to be involved with your upline until they are in your group.
What I mean by this is avoid three-way calls. Don't send them to your upline directly. Don't use them as an example of someone who is already successful, and so on.
I'm very serious about this point. The Internet has totally changed the way people prospect and build an online MLM business.
Once you get a prospect you need to keep them attached to you. The best way to do that is know your business and be able to answer questions.
Granted, you may not be able to answer every question, and that's understandable. But if you can't answer basic questions about your products and compensation plan why would somebody want to get in business with you?
They won't and you are not going to make any money!
